Man Sentenced to Prison for Running Reno Theft Op

A Reno man was given four years in prison after pleading guilty to participating in organized retail theft.

Jose Martinez-Aguilar, owner of Roberto’s on South Virginia Street, ran what authorities described as a fencing operation, purchasing stolen goods from thieves who targeted stores along Virginia Street.

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office stated the operation came to light after the Regional Crime Suppression Unit coordinated with retailers, and an undercover officer sold donated items at the taco shop on six occasions to simulate stolen merchandise.

Searches of Aguilar’s shop and home uncovered thousands of dollars in apparent stolen goods. Loss prevention staff from 17 different retailers identified the stolen items.
