The time has come for me to look for a new blogging platform. WordPress does not seem to value those who blog on a regular basis. No, they rather make it near-impossible to write and edit in the classic style. And Lord hilp you if you decide to go and change your appearance. Forget about setting your personal style into it because you have so many hoops to jump through. Sadly, some of us, me, do not have the time to waste trying to organize a site that seems user friendly, without acceptinag all the various pieces of crap programming that WP forces on the blogger. So, I’m looking.

    I’ve been looking too.

blogger appears to have taken this WordPress platform style and you and I both see how Substack operates. the only thing I can think of at this point is to either do Wix or Squarespace or buy yourself a WordPress.org domain and choose from all the page styles sold in Canva or other vendors all over the internet.

It has taken me years to accept this blogging format and even then the theme I use is a reflection on my desire to just surrender to simplicity.

as for showcasing people who blog regularly, I personally don’t think WP wants to showcase people who they perceive leans towards conservatism. I understand, they have their sponsors. of course you know for full article capability you’ll have to pay at least $11/mo on Elon’s platform and there you’ll find all of the rightwing people, Bluesky if you want a left wing crowd.

one thing I absolutely hate is that WP keeps stubbornly sticking to the Gravatar ID requirement. Not everyone knows to put the URL of their sites on their profile so what results is you see someone that participated in your blog, you click on their circle and it takes you to a dead end profile where you can only decipher their site from their URL name and even then it’s hit or miss. amplified a thousand times over and you have a massive social media connection bottleneck.

however, if you are still looking for a theme that can be somewhat turnkey here, the one theme that I notice is very popular is the “Retrospect” theme and I can see why as there is the modernist simplicity to it.

    good luck on this. Mike
