Treasurer Warns Federal Immigration Enforcement Could Harm State Economy

Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine and fiscal officers from 15 other states are warning that federal immigration enforcement efforts could have severe economic consequences nationwide.

In a letter sent to President Trump, the officials expressed concern that ongoing immigration operations threaten to destabilize local economies, disrupt daily commerce, and negatively impact state finances for years to come.

Nevada has one of the nation’s most sizable immigrant labor forces, with roughly 400,000 workers contributing an estimated $20 billion annually to the state’s economy, according to Conine.
