A tense carjacking investigation in Sparks ended Saturday night after police negotiated the surrender of a suspect who had barricaded himself inside a stolen vehicle.
According to Sparks Police, officers responded to the 1800 block of Sullivan Lane just before 8 p.m. on Jan. 31 following a report of a stolen vehicle taken by force. Officers quickly located the automobile in the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
Police say the driver attempted to flee but only traveled a short distance before the vehicle became disabled near Sullivan Lane and Greenbrae Drive. The suspect then refused to comply with verbal commands and barricaded himself inside the car.
Out of caution, officers blocked off the surrounding area and called in additional resources, including the Sparks Police Hostage Negotiation Team. Authorities also summoned the Bomb Squad after receiving information that raised concerns the suspect may have had explosives in the vehicle.
The suspect eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without injuries to officers or the public.
Police later identified the suspect as 36-year-old Lecarson Pringle of Reno. He was booked on multiple charges, including grand larceny of a motor vehicle (first offense), resisting a public officer, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The case remains under investigation, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Sparks Police.
