Carson Prosecutor Announces Run for Storey County DA

Melanie Brantingham has announced her intention to file for election as district attorney in Storey County.

Brantingham is currently a supervising deputy district attorney with the Carson City District Attorney’s Office, where she has served as a prosecutor for more than 18 years. During her tenure, she has handled a wide range of cases and responsibilities, prosecuting both juvenile and adult criminal matters and managing cases through all stages of the legal process, from initial filing to trial and appeal.

Her work has included close collaboration with law enforcement agencies. Brantingham was an adviser to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit and the Tri-Net Narcotics Task Force. She has also served in an on-call role, providing legal guidance to law enforcement officers, assisting with search warrants, and responding to critical incidents around the clock.

In addition to her prosecutorial duties, Brantingham is involved in training and professional development for law enforcement. She has provided instruction to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Police Officers Standards and Training (POST), and the Nevada State Police Academy. In 2011, she attended the Western Nevada State Peace Officer Academy, where she graduated as valedictorian.

Brantingham earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and later received her Juris Doctor from the William S. Boyd School of Law in Las Vegas in 2004. After several years practicing law in Southern Nevada, Brantingham chose to relocate.

In 2006, she decided not to raise her family in Las Vegas and moved to Northern Nevada. She lived in Carson City for approximately seven years before relocating to Dayton in 2013, where she has since resided.
