A Reno man faces multiple charges after deputies say he led them on a short pursuit following a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday morning.
The Storey County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies were dispatched around 2:51 a.m. on January 28 to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center after the report of a hit-and-run. The victim described the suspect vehicle, which deputies later located on Waltham Way.
The driver, 38-year-old Alexander Chavez, sped away when deputies attempted to make contact, prompting a pursuit. During the chase, deputies say Chavez attempted a U-turn, lost control, and crashed into a fence.
After the crash, deputies discovered Chavez hiding in a nearby bush. Officials say he initially refused commands to come out and later resisted, attempting to kick deputies. Once placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, Chavez reportedly continued to kick and damage a ceiling light.
Investigators also found open alcohol containers in Chavez’s vehicle. Officials noted that he was court-ordered to have a breath interlock device installed in his car, but it was absent.
Deputies reported signs of impairment at the scene.
Chavez was booked into the Storey County Detention Facility and faces charges including eluding a peace officer, assault on a protected person, DUI, possession of an open alcohol container, failure to install a required interlock device, and damaging property.
The investigation remains ongoing.
