Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei is calling for a renewed focus on ICE’s core mission following deadly shootings in Minneapolis. He urged the agency to prioritize enforcement against “the most dangerous criminal aliens” and those with final orders of removal, citing data collected over the past 60 days to review internal operations.
Amodei highlighted the deployment of senior federal officials, including former ICE acting director Tom Homan and CBP leaders, as a positive step. He also praised coordination between Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and the White House, calling the recent approach “different” from earlier operations.
While condemning interference from “local agitators and politicians,” Amodei defended the Department of Homeland Security against calls to dismantle it, citing its oversight of FEMA, the Secret Service, and other agencies.
Amodei’s position contrasts with Nevada’s Democratic senators, Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto, who oppose ICE funding and have proposed legislation to redirect resources to local law enforcement under the PUBLIC SAFETY Act.
