NV Energy CEO Apologizes for Overcharges

NV Energy’s new CEO, Brandon Barkhuff, is apologizing to tens of thousands of customers after the utility acknowledged it overcharged ratepayers, in some cases for more than 20 years.

Barkhuff said the company will issue full refunds totaling $63 million, including interest, to about 45,000 affected customers. The commitment marks a reversal from NV Energy’s position in regulatory filings last week, when the utility argued it was not required to reimburse customers in full under state law and tariffs.

He said while earlier filings reflected legal requirements, the company ultimately chose to “step up” and make customers whole following further discussions and public feedback.

Current customers overcharged by the utility will receive credits on their bills, while former customers will receive refund checks.
