Man Convicted of Reckless Driving

A Washoe County jury has found Victor Ledezma-Caballero guilty on two counts of reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm in connection with a high-speed crash that seriously injured two people in Reno.

The crash occurred around December 13, 2023, near the intersection of Plumb Lane and Hunter Lake Drive. Investigators said Ledezma-Caballero was driving approximately 70 miles per hour when he crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with an SUV driven by Robert Murray. The impact caused Ledezma-Caballero’s vehicle to flip and catch fire.

Authorities said bystanders rushed to help as the car burned, trapping passenger Stevi Lynch inside. Rescuers were able to pull her from the wreckage.

She suffered catastrophic injuries, including burns to 80 percent of her body, blindness in her left eye, multiple broken bones, and the amputation of one arm. Murray sustained a shattered leg, wrist, and sternum, along with brain trauma and other internal injuries.

Prosecutors alleged Ledezma-Caballero had been barhopping for nearly 10 hours before the crash and suspected he was driving under the influence. The judge ruled a blood sample taken more than three hours after the collision was inadmissible, and the jury found him not guilty on two counts of DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm.

Sentencing is March 16, where Ledezma-Caballero faces up to six years in prison on each reckless driving count.
