Man Convicted of Felony Hit-and-Run

A Sparks man was found guilty of leaving the scene of a crash that injured a woman.

Prosecutors say 37-year-old Kyle Van Ness ran a red light at the intersection of Vista Boulevard and Prater Way in May 2024, causing a collision that left the victim injured. After the crash, witnesses reported that Van Ness did not stop and instead drove away from the scene.

One witness followed the suspect vehicle and was able to take photographs of the car and its license plate. Using that information, police located Van Ness at his home and arrested him.

The victim suffered bruising and a broken finger as a result of the crash. Court records indicate the injury required surgery followed by approximately five months of occupational therapy.

Van Ness faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 on Feb. 18.
