Reno, Nev. — A Washoe County woman was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in state prison for repeatedly poisoning her infant child, according to court officials.
Alesha Martin, 25, received the sentence in Second Judicial District Court after pleading guilty to willfully poisoning the child. She will be eligible for parole after serving four years of the sentence.
The investigation began in May 2025, when the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office received reports involving a 14-month-old child who had experienced multiple unexplained medical emergencies. Authorities said the child had been hospitalized several times in both Nevada and Utah, prompting medical professionals to alert law enforcement.
According to investigators, medical testing revealed the child received unprescribed medication on multiple occasions, with doctors determining the exposures were not accidental.
During the investigation, Martin admitted to administering the medication to the infant, authorities said. After being removed from harm, the child received medical treatment.
