Police Arrest Man in Hit-and-Run

Sparks, Nev. — Sparks police have arrested an 18-year-old Reno man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a juvenile earlier this week.

Officers with the Major Accident Investigation Team located the suspected vehicle on Jan. 14. It was found parked and unoccupied on Summit Sierra Boulevard and seized as evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Investigators later identified and interviewed the driver, Christian Escobar, 18, of Reno. Following the interview, officers took Escobar into custody and booked him into the Washoe County Jail.

He faces one charge of duty to stop at the scene of an accident involving personal injury or death, police said. The arrest stems from a crash reported at approximately 2:41 p.m. on Jan. 13 near the intersection of Rock Boulevard and I Street.

Police said a vehicle traveling southbound on Rock Boulevard struck a juvenile who was riding an electric scooter and crossing the roadway at the time of the collision. Escobar fled the scene immediately after the crash, continuing southbound on Rock Boulevard.

The juvenile sustained serious injuries. The victim’s condition is unknow
