Reno, Nev. — A Reno man remains under arrest after law enforcement agencies seized a large quantity of illegal narcotics during a joint investigation, according to a Reno Police Department news release issued Thursday, Jan. 8.
Detectives with the Regional Narcotics Unit, the Nevada State Police Investigation Division, and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Street Enforcement Team received a tip that a man would be trafficking a significant amount of illegal drugs into the region. The information prompted an investigation that led authorities to identify the suspect as Smiley Martin, 52, of Reno.
Law enforcement stopped Martin in the area of South Virginia and Mt. Rose streets in Reno. During the encounter, investigators allegedly discovered approximately 20 pounds of methamphetamine, 1.25 pounds of marijuana, and $8,074 in cash.
Authorities estimated the street value of the methamphetamine alone at approximately $223,252. Martin faces multiple felony charges, including possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, trafficking of a controlled substance, and transportation of a controlled substance.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges or arrests are possible as detectives continue to follow up on information obtained during the case.
