The southbound lanes of U.S. 395 near Wilson Butte have reopened after being closed earlier Sunday due to snow from an avalanche.

Caltrans District 9 announced the closure around 9:36 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, stating that avalanche debris had covered the roadway south of State Route 158. During cleanup operations, one-way traffic control was in place while crews worked to remove snow from the highway.

The California Highway Patrol’s Bridgeport office escorted motorists through the area using the northbound lanes as crews cleared the roadway. Caltrans later confirmed that all lanes have since reopened and traffic is moving through the area.
