Teen Injured in Shooting; Arrests Made

RENO, Nev. — Reno police are investigating an early-morning shooting on Saturday that left a teenager hospitalized and resulted in multiple arrests.

Officers were dispatched around 4 a.m. on December 27 after receiving reports of gunfire near Skyway Drive, close to Summit Ridge Park. While officers were en route, additional callers reported hearing several shots near the intersection of Highcrest Drive and Skyway Drive. One caller witnessed a vehicle chasing a person who was running through the park.

When officers arrived in the area, they observed a vehicle speeding away and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of 3rd Street and Vine Street.

Inside the vehicle, officers found a 17-year-old juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound. Police provided immediate medical aid before REMSA rushed him to the hospital. Authorities said the injuries are not life-threatening.

Police detained three other occupants of the vehicle, and before locating multiple firearms inside the car, including one with an obliterated serial number. All three ended up arrested.

Police identified one of the adults as 21-year-old Javier Casildo-Rios, who faces charges including obliterating a serial number on a firearm, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, obstructing and resisting, and reckless driving. An 18-year-old, Joran Chaudhary, was arrested on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A 16-year-old juvenile faces a charge of obstructing and resisting.
