Genie in Ma Glass

Down in ma cups, I tried tae drown,
The gloom that haunts me every day,
Aye, climbin’ in, a bottle’s crown,
Hoping it’ll wash ma cares away.

‘Tis no’ love’s loss, nor bitter tears,
No loneliness that holds me tight,
But chemical waltz feeds ma fears,
More thistle than rose in the night.

Perchance I’ve lost ma mind for sure,
Yet cannae tell the reason why,
Seekin’ wish at the whiskey’s lure,
Genie deep in a glassy sigh.

i did a renovation project in this remote irish town up north. the people still kept those old classic names but most importantly, i could hear a variation of those laments you wrote at the local bar i drank at with them! Mike
