• Fetterman Keynote Speaker at Washoe County Democratic Party Fundraiser

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman was the headline speaker at a Washoe County Democratic Party fundraiser in Reno, held at the Neil Road Recreation Center, on Saturday, February 17, drawing such notables as Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and State Treasurer Zach Conine.

His message emphasized the critical importance of voter turnout in the upcoming November elections. He underscored the need for Democrats to unite and show up at the polls to re-elect President Joe Biden and Senator Jacky Rosen.

“If you aren’t excited about Biden or you are thinking about sitting out, or even throwing away your vote for some rando third, third party, it’s like you have made Trump your guy,” Fetterman said.

In his rallying call to action, Fetterman warned against complacency, asserting that abstaining from voting empowers figures like former President Donald Trump.

Beyond electoral politics, Fetterman addressed pressing global issues, advocating for the passage of the foreign aid package recently approved by the Senate. The proposed aid package of $95 million provides financial support to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. Fetterman stressed the urgency of this legislation, warning that failure to pass it could have dire consequences, particularly for Ukraine.

Fetterman’s visit was such a big deal for Nevada Democrats, and his visit was so hush-hush that not even my wife knew he was there, despite being in the room next, as the City of Reno’s Neil Road Recreation Center building monitor.

  • DHS Links China to Illegal Pot Grows

In a recent series of law enforcement actions, Chinese nationals are involved in illegal marijuana grow operations in the Western region of the U.S., including Nevada.

In October 2022, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) served search warrants on an illegal 22-acre marijuana grow south of Gardnerville. The operation involved 60,066 plants in 160 hoop houses, totaling 123,900 pounds of marijuana.

Although authorities questioned 80 people, including Chinese nationals, only two arrests were made, one for an immigration violation and another for possession of a controlled substance. Authorities also seized the marijuana with an estimated street value in the millions.

A federal memorandum obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation in July 2022 shed light on the involvement of Chinese nationals in illegal marijuana grows within Western states. Chinese nationals with resident status or asylum claims that prevent their removal are heading the operations and are generally associated with foreign organized crime.

The federal memo also highlighted similar activities in Maine, where Chinese nationals, some with legal status, operate illegal marijuana grows estimated at $4.37 billion across 270 suspected operations. Many of the rural areas are also exploited by Chinese criminal organizations that produce and distribute marijuana, with profits potentially linked to Mexican cartels and the fentanyl trade.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified approximately 749 properties linked to Asian (Chinese) Transnational Criminal Organizations nationwide in 2020. Law enforcement efforts in Nevada, including a September 2021 operation in Lincoln and Nye Counties, targeted illegal marijuana grows operated by Chinese nationals.

  • Assholism

The world around me is getting more dangerous as time moves forward.

Around 11 a.m., while delivering newspapers, I entered a business and exchanged the issues from the week before for the new ones. Having done that, I collected the money from the plastic container next to the paper holder and exited the business.

Not more than three steps into the gravel driveway, I was struck in the back of my head by someone. The blow was hard enough to throw me off balance, and I tumbled forward.

Rolling on my right shoulder as trained in self-defense courses, I came up on my feet, ready to fight. Suddenly, I heard a woman screaming at the man who had hit me.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?!” she said.

“I saw him steal money from the paper jar,” the man answered.

“It his damned money, you fucking idiot,” she continued. “He’s the newspaper guy!”

With the left side of his body exposed to me, he had turned slightly to look at the woman. As he started to look back at me, I unloaded a full-body punch to his jaw.

I launched my right fist into the corner of his mandible after I took a step and leaped from the ground, placing my entire 200-plus pound frame into the swing.

The man, about five inches taller than me, maybe 75 pounds less than I, and at least 25 years younger, stiffened and spun to his right, falling on his left side. He lay there, unconscious and quivering as if having an epileptic fit.

Because he was shaking so badly, someone called 9-1-1, and soon, the fire department, an ambulance, and two squad cars arrived on the scene. In short order, I found myself wearing cuffs, detained as the LEOs set about to figure out what happened.

Several people came forward as witnesses, and I was soon released. By then, paramedics had loaded the man up and left, taking him to the nearby hospital.

The LEO who had cuffed me told me that while he considers my action as self-defense, he still has to turn the case over to the district attorney, and that person might see it differently and charge me. I agreed to turn myself in if that should happen.

That’s the end of the story for now, but for the life of me, I cannot understand why this shit keeps happening and why I respond like I do.

  • Clark County Commissioners Accept Nearly $11,000 in ‘Educational’ Formula 1 Tickets

Five Clark County commissioners reportedly accepted “educational” tickets valued at nearly $11,000 to attend Formula 1 race activities in November.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix offered these tickets, and commissioners William McCurdy, Tick Segerblom, Jim Gibson, Justin Jones, and Ross Miller accepted them. The tickets, valued at $10,000 with an additional $900 for Nevada’s 9 percent Live Entertainment Tax, granted admission to Formula 1 race events from Wednesday, November 15 through Saturday, November 18.

McCurdy stated that the tickets were for educational purposes to help officials understand race operations, services, and infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of experiencing how the race operates since they played a role in bringing the event to Las Vegas.

Segerblom also defended the decision, considering the event’s impact on the county and its residents. He stated that learning from the experience is crucial if the county plans to continue hosting the event in the coming years.

Miller attended one practice to understand the logistical aspects of the race, emphasizing the importance of having a firsthand perspective to make informed decisions about future county involvement.

Kirkpatrick attended the opening ceremony but declined the tickets due to a personal event. Naft declined the tickets also but was present at the first responder command center on the night of the race.

All attending commissioners disclosed the tickets on their 2024 financial disclosure reports, except Segerblom, who later indicated his intention to amend his report. Gibson reported the $10,900 ticket as an in-kind contribution to his Campaign and Expenditure Report.

  • “Rubber Stamp Russell” to Retire

Carson City District Court Judge Russell, dubbed “Rubber Stamp Russell” by critics, is reportedly retiring, and sources claim he has asked Governor Joe Lombardo to appoint his successor in June.

Known for his poor handling of election-related cases, Russell often dismissed such cases brought by conservatives or Republicans. He earned his moniker by routinely stamping cases as dismissed without examining the evidence presented, usually with prejudice, while allegedly allowing defense teams to draft court orders filled with misinformation, propaganda, and falsehoods, which he then approved.

While some anticipate that Russell will stay on until June, critics fear the appointment of another “rubber stamper” who might dismiss cases without proper scrutiny. Advocates for impartiality, adherence to the U.S. Constitution, and fair judgments are hopeful that the new appointee will break from the perceived pattern of dismissing cases without due consideration.

His retirement comes on the heels of another election-related judge, Judge James Wilson, announcing retirement. Russell and Wilson held pivotal roles as “rubber stampers” in statewide election cases.

Lombardo now faces the task of appointing a successor for Russell.

  • Nation in Turmoil as EMP Strikes U.S. Power Grid

Imagine, if you will, that the U.S. is currently facing the aftermath of a devastating Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack on its power grid.

As the lights went out across the country, the immediate impact on daily life became evident. Citizens are grappling with a sudden loss of access to mobile phones, the internet, and other digital communication channels.

Emergency services are struggling to maintain connectivity, hindering coordination and response efforts. Hospitals and medical facilities operate on emergency backup systems, posing a threat to critical patients and the ability to provide essential healthcare services.

Public transportation systems have ground to a halt, as has fuel distribution. Traffic lights, dependent on electricity, are out of commission, leading to widespread traffic jams.

The businesses are grappling with the cessation of operations. Retailers, manufacturers, and service providers cannot function, leading to financial losses and concerns over long-term economic impact.

As authorities scramble to assess the extent of the damage and devise a comprehensive recovery plan, experts warn that rebuilding the power grid will be time-consuming. The lack of electricity will persist for at least six months or more as repair crews face significant challenges accessing affected areas and navigating disrupted transportation networks.

The sudden surge in demand for essential supplies, such as fuel, food, and water, places immense pressure on available resources. Distribution networks strained by the lack of electricity exacerbate the challenge of meeting the needs of affected populations.

The extended period without electricity raises concerns about the psychological well-being of citizens. Social tensions and anxieties over an uncertain future loom large, emphasizing the importance of mental health support in the recovery process as authorities urge citizens to shelter in place.

    It could happen, you know.

Since being a young adult, experts have been saying the U.S. electrical grid is vulnerable to electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack, and while considered low in probability, would have astronomically high and devastating impacts on the nation’s infrastructure and millions of lives.

And yet, nothing is being done despite all the taxpayer funds handed out by the federal government in the name of infrastructure repair and creation. Then there is all that cash going to Ukraine to help that country “defend” itself instead of the U.S.

The concerns raised focus on the hypothetical situation where countries like South Korea or Iran possess the capability to launch rockets armed with nuclear weapons into the atmosphere. Detonating a nuke in the upper atmosphere could generate an EMP, which, in turn, would fry electronic systems across the country, leading to an extended period of recovery lasting a year or more.

The same experts now say that while the government’s systems may have some level of protection, the broader electrical grid that sustains everyday life for citizens remains inadequately fortified. Unlike governmental facilities, the rest of the nation’s infrastructure has not received the necessary investment to shield against the potential fallout of an EMP attack.

A global-scale attack could result in a disaster of unparalleled proportions, causing widespread casualties and immense damage to critical infrastructure. The immediate impact on millions of lives in America and the world highlights the urgent need for proactive measures to mitigate such threats.

While the likelihood of an EMP attack may be deemed low by U.S. security analysts, calls are growing for increased investment in hardening the electrical grid to protect against EMP attacks and other threats that could compromise the nation’s technological infrastructure. Unfortunately, local and national governments have turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to the problem.

And to think, we had a Chinese air balloon float clean across the country in 2023 without knowing whether it was armed with a nuclear device or not.
