Additional victims are sharing their stories after a Henderson mother, Haleigh Hall Knight, admitted to faking cancer and manipulating friends and supporters into providing financial and emotional support.
Suzanne Duroy, a former colleague of Knight’s who donated $1,000 to Knight’s GoFundMe campaign, expressed her shock and betrayal. Duroy, a breast cancer survivor and former oncology nurse, met Knight in 2022 while working at a surgery center.
After moving to Florida to care for her father with Alzheimer’s, Duroy received a call from Knight’s sister claiming Haleigh had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Court documents reveal Knight’s motive: “Haleigh states she faked having cancer so that Cydney and her family, along with Haleigh’s family, would feel guilty and more inclined to love and be around her if she claimed she was sick.”
Duroy is among several people who have come forward about Knight’s deception, including one of Knight’s high school friends. She noted that the impact extends beyond financial losses, as Knight betrayed the trust of friends who would have helped her.
Knight pleaded guilty to theft in March. She faces sentencing on June 26.
