Carson Apartment Playground Fire Under Investigation

An investigation is underway after a fire destroyed a playground at a Carson City apartment complex Sunday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. at 20 College Parkway. Firefighters responded quickly and were able to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading beyond the playground area. According to authorities, deputies and detectives learned that five juveniles had been playing in the area before the fire.

Investigators say the blaze appears to have started on or near the rubberized ground surface of the playground. Officials are using witness statements and surveillance footage to help identify those who were in the area at the time the fire began.
