Sparks Man Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of Children

A Sparks man has been sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for sexually abusing multiple children, including victims on the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Prosecutors say Angel Fernandez abused four Native American children on tribal land, as well as two additional victims, over a period spanning nearly two decades, from 2004 to 2022. Authorities said some of the abuse continued even after certain victims reached the age of 16.

Fernandez pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a minor within Indian Country and two counts of abusive sexual contact within Indian Country.

Following his prison sentence, a federal judge ordered Fernandez to serve 15 years of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
