Decades Later, Las Vegas Slayings Remain Unsolved

Nearly 33 years after a well-known Elvis impersonator and his girlfriend were found murdered in their Las Vegas home, the case remains unsolved, with investigators still searching for answers.

Dana Mackay, a performer in the long-running “Legends in Concert” show on the Las Vegas Strip, was known for his Elvis Presley tribute act. Friends said his stage persona came naturally to him.

Mackay had been dating Mary Huffman, a former Mrs. Nevada who owned a resale shop. Huffman’s daughter said her mother had recently found happiness following a divorce and was excited about the relationship.

The couple was found dead inside Mackay’s home on Oct. 2, 1993. Investigators said Huffman was shot once in the head, and that the suspect or suspects then waited for Mackay to return home before shooting him multiple times.

Investigators have said robbery was not a motive, noting that valuables, cash, and jewelry were left behind. Friends and family reported that the only item missing was a business file Mackay routinely carried.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police say they continue to review cold cases like this one, applying new technology and investigative techniques as they become available in hopes of bringing closure to victims’ families.

Anyone with information about the case should contact law enforcement.
