Small Quake Rattles Near Silver Peak

A minor earthquake shook the area near Silver Peak early Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The preliminary 2.2-magnitude tremor struck at 2:23 a.m., with its epicenter located about 21 miles north of Silver Peak at a shallow depth of just 0.02 miles.

Seismologists note that this quake is part of a string of recent activity in the region. Over the past week, five earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or higher have been recorded.

The largest was a 3.3-magnitude tremor southeast of Mina on March 11. Other recent quakes include a 3.0-magnitude earthquake south-southeast of Mina on March 10, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake south-southeast of Mina on the same day, a 2.7-magnitude earthquake north-northeast of Silver Peak on March 10, and a 2.5-magnitude earthquake south-southeast of Mina, also on March 10.
