Tesla will pay $200,000 to the state of Nevada after officials determined the company operated certain equipment at its Gigafactory in Storey County without proper permits.
In 2023, the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources observed an unpermitted cell recycling line at the facility. The operation included shredding equipment used to extract natural resources such as lithium and copper from old products.
State regulators found the operation violated air quality regulations due to the pollutants released during the process. Tesla is required to pay the fine within 60 days, which will go to air quality management programs across Nevada.
