Exploding E-Bike Triggers House Fire in South Reno

A garage fire caused by an exploding electric bike left a home in the Virginia Foothills neighborhood of Reno uninhabitable on Wednesday afternoon.

Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue (TMFR) reported that the incident occurred around 2:37 p.m. on Riata Circle. According to Fire Communications Manager Adam Mayberry, the e-bike caught fire while charging and subsequently exploded, igniting the garage.

Seven engines and REMSA units responded to the scene, and firefighters were able to knock down the blaze within 11 minutes. Thick smoke was visible as crews worked both inside and outside the home.

A neighboring house sustained minor damage, and the residents and their pet were uninjured.

Authorities continue to investigate.
