Early Sunday morning, a traffic stop on the southbound I-15 on-ramp at St. Rose Parkway escalated when a driver reportedly pointed a firearm at Nevada State Police(NSP) troopers.
Shortly before 1 a.m., NSP troopers initiated the stop after the driver failed to stop at a red light. During the encounter, troopers observed signs of possible impaired driving and asked the driver to exit the vehicle.
According to NSP, the driver refused to comply and then allegedly pointed a firearm at the troopers. In response, one trooper discharged their firearm into the driver’s side window.
The driver was taken into custody without further incident, transported to a local hospital for evaluation, and later booked into the Clark County Detention Center. NSP reports that no serious injuries occurred to the driver or the troopers involved.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident.
