A person died, while a Reno police officer received injuries following an officer-involved shooting on Wells Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance said officers responded just before 4:30 p.m. to a report of a person on the Wells Avenue overpass near Kuenzle Street. During the encounter on the Wells Avenue Bridge, a shooting occurred involving a police officer. The suspect died at the scene.
While the nature of the officer’s injuries is unknown, Chief Nance said the officer is awake, alert, and in “good spirits.” They are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Authorities have not released further details about what led up to the shooting and are asking the public to avoid the area. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will take over the ongoing investigation.
