Jury Selection Begins in Trial of Man Accused in Shootings

Jury selection is underway in the trial of a man accused of two separate shootings that left more than a dozen people injured in the Reno-Sparks area.

Frank Hewitt faces a total of 25 criminal charges, including 11 counts of attempted murder, stemming from shootings in 2023 and 2024.

One of the incidents occurred in 2023 at the Zephyr Point Apartments in northwest Reno, where seven people were wounded. Authorities allege Hewitt opened fire at the apartment complex, sending multiple victims to area hospitals. There were no fatalities.

The second incident took place in June 2024 at the Sparks Marina, a popular recreational area. Four people received injuries in that shooting, according to investigators.

Police stopped Hewitt the day after the Reno apartment shooting, but officials said at the time they did not have sufficient evidence to connect him to the crime. The investigation continued for more than a year, with detectives from the Reno Police Department focusing on tracing firearms believed used in both shootings.

The investigation ultimately led to Hewitt’s arrest in December 2024.
