Man Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

A 39-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) booking report.

At approximately 1:33 a.m., a CCSO deputy was patrolling in the area of Stewart and Telegraph streets when they observed a vehicle make a wide turn from a private parking area onto Telegraph Street, then continue eastbound toward Stewart Street. The deputy, who was facing westbound on Telegraph, noted the vehicle had crossed over the stop line at the intersection of Telegraph and Stewart.

The deputy activated their dash camera and followed the vehicle southbound on Stewart Street. While following, the deputy observed the vehicle swerve into the eastbound turn lane at the intersection of Stewart Street and East Fifth Street. The deputy also noticed the vehicle’s rear license plate light was not functioning, according to the report.

The deputy activated emergency overhead lights on East Fifth and Roop streets. However, the driver continued eastbound, passing five cross streets before finally stopping at Parkland Avenue.

Upon making contact with the driver, who identified himself using a Nevada driver’s license, the deputy reported smelling an odor of alcohol coming from the man. The deputy also observed thick, slurred speech and red, watery eyes.

When asked if he had been drinking, the man said he had consumed a couple of alcoholic beverages and had been at a bar. He agreed to step out of the vehicle, and the deputy noted that the man swayed slightly while standing still. The man consented to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment, according to the report.

The man blew a preliminary breath test of 0.182, and he was arrested for suspicion of DUI and agreed to voluntary evidentiary breath testing. Subsequent breath samples registered 0.159 and 0.175.
