State Senator Pleads No Contest

Democratic State Senator Edgar Flores, 39, pleaded no contest Wednesday to a reduced charge of careless driving, stemming from a DUI arrest last fall. Flores did not appear in court; instead, he entered the plea through his attorney.

The judge reduced the original misdemeanor DUI charge, ordering Flores to pay a $685 fine and attend DUI school. Flores was arrested on September 12 near Lamb and Lake Mead boulevards after police found him asleep behind the wheel.

According to court documents, Flores told officers he had consumed a 24-ounce beer. Two blood tests taken afterward showed blood alcohol levels of 0.082 and 0.062, above and just below Nevada’s legal limit of 0.08.

Flores was elected to the Nevada Senate in 2022 after serving in the Nevada Assembly.
