A traffic stop in Fernley on Wednesday afternoon led to the seizure of large quantities of illegal drugs and the arrest of two men, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 2:22 p.m. on Jan. 21, deputies stopped a silver Chevrolet sedan on Mountain Rose Drive after observing the vehicle lacked a front license plate and had a rear plate obscured by a tinted cover. As the auto pulled into Out of Town Park, one passenger, later identified as 32-year-old Pablo Castro-Zambrano of Sun Valley, exited the car and attempted to walk away before being instructed to return.
Deputies identified the driver as 32-year-old Gabriel Vasquez of Reno, who was driving on a suspended Nevada license. Authorities also determined the sedan was uninsured and displaying a license plate that belonged to a similar vehicle.
A sheriff’s office K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs, prompting a search of the vehicle. Deputies reported finding about a half-pound of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia associated with drug sales, 26.3 grams of Trazodone Hydrochloride, and more than 15 pounds of marijuana. Vasquez was also carrying concealed brass knuckles.
Both men are in the Lyon County Jail on multiple felony drug-related charges.
