Man Sentenced for Domestic Violence

James Allen was sentenced Wednesday, Jan. 14, to a minimum of four years and four months and up to 11 years in the Nevada Department of Corrections for multiple domestic violence-related convictions.

Allen was convicted of felony domestic battery by strangulation, felony assault constituting domestic violence with the use of a deadly weapon, and misdemeanor domestic battery. On the strangulation charge, Allen received a sentence of 24 to 60 months, to be served consecutively with a 28- to 72-month sentence for the felony assault charge. He also received 146 days, with credit for time served, for the misdemeanor count.

The case stemmed from an October 2024 incident in which Reno Police officers responded to a report of battery involving Allen and his then-girlfriend, a 32-year-old woman. The victim’s supervisor called police when she arrived at work with a black eye, swollen lips, and limited mobility.

The victim reported Allen struck her, strangled her until she lost consciousness, and threatened her life by placing a gun to her head and pulling the trigger while it was unloaded.

Investigators later uncovered additional incidents of abuse, including a broken arm, repeated assaults, and threats involving firearms. The couple are parents to a child, whom Allen allegedly threatened to take away.
