School Returns to Normal After Unfounded Threat

Reno, Nev. — McQueen High School returned to normal operations Tuesday morning after school police investigated a reported threat that was later determined to be unfounded, according to the Washoe County School District.

The incident occurred just after 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 13, when the school was placed on a “secured campus” status as a precaution while WCSD School Police responded to investigate a possible threat. The secured campus designation was lifted about an hour later, around 11:30 a.m., after officers concluded there was no credible danger.

During the response, witnesses reported seeing multiple school resource officers on campus with guns drawn, prompting concern among some students and parents. District officials said the response was part of standard safety procedures while police assessed the situation.

In a message sent to families, school administrators confirmed that classes continued as scheduled throughout the incident and that additional police presence would remain on campus to help ensure the safety of students and staff. The school says that student and staff safety remains the district’s top priority.
