Lyon County, Nev. — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has identified a 75-year-old Dayton man who died while in custody during a transport on Dec. 31, 2025.
According to LCSO, the death of Dean Allan Hendricks was reviewed during a preliminary investigative briefing received on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
In late December, LCSO received information that Hendricks had previously been convicted of a sexual offense against a minor in Kitsap County, Washington, and had not registered as a sex offender in Nevada as required by law. Authorities confirmed that in 1982, Hendricks was sentenced to prison for Indecent Liberties with a Minor, a charge comparable to a Nevada felony offense.
Members of the LCSO Sex Offender Task Force contacted Hendricks at his Dayton residence at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 31. Hendricks acknowledged he had not registered as a sex offender.
Upon arrest and collecting his medications, he was transported to the Lyon County Jail.
At about 2:53 p.m., a deputy stopped at the Silver Springs Substation to change Hendricks’ restraints, a routine practice during long transports. Upon opening the patrol vehicle’s rear door, the deputy found Hendricks unresponsive and not breathing.
Lifesaving efforts began immediately, and emergency medical personnel arrived within minutes. Despite resuscitation efforts, Hendricks was pronounced dead at 3:23 p.m.
Body camera footage shows the entire contact and transport. Preliminary findings indicate no evidence of foul play or policy violations.
An autopsy has been completed, with final results pending. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is conducting an independent investigation, which remains ongoing.
