Reno, Nev. — Reno police are investigating a shooting incident reported Sunday night that led to the arrest of a convicted felon and the seizure of multiple firearms and a large quantity of marijuana.

Officers were called to Golden Eagle Drive at about 9:40 p.m. on Jan. 4 after several residents reported hearing rapid gunfire and smelling gunpowder in the area. When officers arrived, they located multiple spent shell casings scattered nearby.

During the investigation, officers observed muddy footprints outside a nearby residence that linked the shoes to the incident. Police contacted and detained Jason Baker and determined he is a convicted felon who had also failed to register, according to authorities.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for Baker’s home due to the suspected firearm involvement. During the search, officers recovered four firearms, numerous firearm magazines, body armor, and a handgun consistent with the caliber of the shell casings found at the scene.

Police also discovered approximately 11.5 pounds of marijuana inside the residence.

Baker, 44, was booked into jail on multiple charges, including discharging a firearm in public, four counts of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and possession of more than one ounce but less than 50 pounds of marijuana.

There were no injuries, and the investigation remains ongoing.
