Virginia City, Nev. — A man was arrested on multiple drug-related charges following a traffic stop in Storey County on Monday night, according to the Storey County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 5. The driver was 48-year-old Timothy Poland of Hawthorne.

During a records check, the deputy learned Poland was on parole and probation, and subject to specific conditions. Parole and Probation officials requested deputies detain him.

A Storey County Sheriff’s Office K-9 deputy responded to assist, and a K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle. The dog alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting a search of the auto.

During the search, deputies found multiple items of drug paraphernalia, a digital scale, several small clear plastic bags, and approximately 22 grams of methamphetamine.

Poland was arrested and booked into the Storey County Detention Facility on charges of possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance in an amount greater than 14 grams but less than 28 grams, attempt to sell a Schedule I or II controlled substance as a second offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
