Gardnerville, Nev. — The Bureau of Land Management’s Carson City District plans a prescribed burn east of Gardnerville to reduce wildfire risk.
The project involves burning 209 acres of slash piles along Upper Sunrise Pass Road in the Pinenut Mountains. Burning is scheduled between January 6 and April 30 and will only occur when weather and fuel conditions allow for safe operations.
The effort aims to reduce excess vegetation that could fuel future wildfires and improve safety along the roadway. BLM wildland fire crews will be on scene during operations.
Officials say the work will take place over 15 to 20 days, spread out over periods of stable weather rather than on consecutive days. Smoke may be visible during burn periods.
