SPARKS, Nev. (Dec. 26, 2025) — A Sparks man is heading to prison following a violent incident that began with a woman screaming for help outside her apartment earlier this year.
According to the Sparks Police Department, officers responded on Feb. 20 to an apartment complex on Sullivan Lane after reports of a man attempting to force a woman into a car while she was shouting for police. By the time officers arrived, the individuals and the vehicle had left the area. The woman was later located and treated for minor injuries.
The Neighborhood Police Unit, which focuses on crimes in multi-unit housing complexes, interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video, ultimately identifying a suspect.
Police say further investigation established probable cause to arrest 25-year-old Michael Pineda on felony charges of second-degree kidnapping and third-offense domestic battery. Detectives with the Regional Crime Suppression Unit located Pineda on Apr. 3 and took him into custody without incident.
Convicted on both charges, on Monday, Dec. 15, he received four to 10 years in prison for second-degree kidnapping and an additional two to five years for third-offense domestic battery.
