SUSANVILLE, Cal. (Dec. 24, 2025) — The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Flood Advisory for the Susan River at Susanville due to elevated river levels caused by excessive rainfall.

The advisory is in effect until early this afternoon and impacts areas along the Susan River in Lassen County. The river will rise above flood stage late Wednesday morning before gradually receding.

According to the National Weather Service, flooding happens when the river reaches 12.0 feet. At that level, localized flooding is possible in Susanville from Lassen Street downstream along Riverside Drive, particularly below Piute Creek near Alexander Drive.

Moderate lowland flooding is also possible downstream of Susanville in Johnstonville, Leavitt Lake, Standish, and Litchfield. Some rural roads may be affected, and officials warn that flooding of Carol Street and Highway 395 near Litchfield is possible if the river crests higher than currently forecast.

As of 9 a.m., Wednesday, the Susan River measured 10.7 feet, above the action stage of 10.5 feet. Forecasters expect the river to crest at approximately 12.1 feet this afternoon before falling below flood stage later in the day and dropping to around 9.2 feet by Thursday morning.

Although the river may rise again tomorrow, it will remain below flood stage. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain alert, monitor river conditions, and prepare for possible road closures or localized flooding.
