Kasama Drops Out of Nevada Congressional Race

Heidi Kasama is withdrawing from the Third District Congressional race to focus on defending her current state Assembly 2 seat.

“I could not imagine myself in Washington, D.C. trying to fix Congress if Governor Lombardo faced veto-proof majorities in both chambers at home in Nevada,” Kasama said. “Any such victory would be a hollow one.”

The move leaves Drew Johnson and Elizabeth Helgelien as the remaining Republicans competing for the chance to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Susie Lee in the 3rd Congressional District. The district includes parts of Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, and unincorporated Clark County and is historically considered the most competitive district in Nevada.

Her decision to shift her focus comes after discussions with Lombardo, who endorsed her shortly after she announced her decision to campaign again for Assembly District 2. In the primary, Kasama will face Clark County GOP Chair Jesse Law.

Law is one of five persons indicted as a “fake elector” for then-President Donald Trump following the 2020 election. He has pleaded not guilty to felony charges that could result in prison time.
