In exploring the nature of God’s foreknowledge and its implications for freedom of choice, I want to challenge our understanding by delving into the concept of timelessness. By examining the relationship between God’s perspective and the linear progression of time, I would like to reconcile divine omniscience with our free will.
The central issue is the potential conflict between God’s knowledge of the future and our freedom to act contrary to that foreknowledge. This dilemma arises from our perception that God exists within the same timeline as human beings but with the added ability to see ahead.
However, say God exists outside the confines of time, transcending the linear progression of the past, present, and future of our experience. In this notion, what we perceive as “tomorrow” is no different from what we perceive as “today” or “yesterday” to God.
It means that all moments are simultaneously present to God.
This concept of timelessness allows for a fresh interpretation of the relationship between God’s foreknowledge and our free will. So since God’s perspective is not in our timeline, His knowledge of our future actions does not restrict our ability to choose differently.
From God’s timeless vantage point, He comprehends our choices as one, encompassing the past, present, and future. Thus, we maintain our free will, even though God has a complete picture of those choices.
